Recent work is inspired by frequent experiences of being amongst the high Pennines and upper moorland reaches in the North of England with changing and transient light effects. Similar expressive paintings in the gallery are created from frequent visits to locations on Britain’s coast and islands which contrast to those of the dazzling allure of the Mediterranean with a confident use of a brighter colour palette.

Being amongst the landscape, whatever the location, physically recording and creating, these initial studies are combined with memory and a more physical emotive response, to create ‘a painted translation’, rather thana purley topographical rendition.
