Robert's award-winning contemporary and expressive style achieves such success because his mixed media drawings and paintings rely on creating the right balance between spontaneity and control. By intuitively working much freer (very often en plein air), when combining his intuitive choice of different media together, the results are strong, interesting, and connect with his subject in unique and exciting ways.

Paintings and Drawings

The following collection of drawings and paintings are combinations of considered studio work using a variety of media and en plein air studies - direct contact with the landscape with engaged key responses being fundamental to their successful outcome. "Texture and form are the leading inspiration to my work. I'm not interested in creating a mere copy of the landscape itself and depict it exactly as it looks. It is more how I 'feel' about the sublime landscape and my response to it which are far more important than a superficial polarised response.

Teaching you techniques -

Art Holidays and Short Breaks

Robert is an experienced art tutor with an energetic style of teaching and encourages students to have as many first hand experiences as possible directly in the landscape. Connecting with and experiencing the landscape, really looking and engage with the this most compelling of subjects, students have an enriched learning experience.

Creative Workshops

In studio based workshops Robert encourages a more experimental approach to painting and drawing with a variety of chosen media. The learning experience for participants is always an exciting one with a loose and contemporary style being encouraged. Experimentation is the key to success and as such students are given the confidence to 'let go' enjoy the day for an engaging and creatively engaging learning experiences.
