This short break art holiday gives artists the ideal opportunity to explore the versatile Derwent's water-soluble Inktense blocks and pencils on watercolour paper (provided) using a bold approach with the media using glazing and layering together with an expressive use of colour. The emphasis of the course is a semi abstract approach to landscape subjects of your own choice (not necessarily Lake District views) to bring with you as photographs, sketches and so on to work from.

Introduction
This short break studio based art holiday gives all artists the ideal opportunity to explore Derwent's Inktense blocks as never before.
Because the main materials are provided (except those on the recommended 'what to bring' list below), this allows students to really 'go for it' by creating really expressive paintings and using the media to its full potential. With regular demonstrations, group and one to one learning experiences, this exciting course will be a real eye opener to what's possible to create with Derwent inktense and is sure to inspire!
A little about Inktense
Derwent Inktense is a very different media and a popular one amongst artists of different levels of ability too. Portable, lightweight, versatile and inspirational are just some of the atributes this brand new media. With 100 different colours within the entire range of blocks and pencils, Derwent Inktense blocks alone allow the artist to both draw and paint with them at the same time. Techniques akin to pastel painting and water media with Inktense are the hallmarks of this versatile media.
We will explore so many different techniques on this exciting art course you are sure to be inspired to use Derwent inktense for your own future paintings too!

Tutor introduction
Robert is a leading Associate Artist for Derwent, chosen for his creative and award winning art techniques usng select Derwent products which Include Inktense (amongst others) to create richly layered expressive paintings filled with colour, atmosphere and above all, a sence of place with an expressive look.
Working in the fully equiped studio at Higham Hall, Robert will guide every student through each and every step using Derwent Inktense to teach you many different and exciting creative techniques with this versatile and easy to use media.

'This try before you buy' short break provides artists with more than just an insight with Derwent Inktense - instead, by being creativity involved yourselves with the media, this allows each student to use the special 24 Derwent Inktense sticks and pencils colours provided to create exciting paintings each day to thoroughly get to know the media.
Inktense coloured pencil sets will also be provided by Higham Hall for use during your workshop as well as 2 half imperial sheets of watercolour paper (21 x 15 inches each size) so you can really create uninhibited and exciting paintings!

(This art course is not suitable for pure beginners to art as the creative techniques taught may be too advanced).



















What's included
- 24 Derwent Inktense sticks (one set per student for use during the course)
- Several sets of 24 Inktense coloured pencils (group share) for use during the course
- Full imperial sheet of Canson top quality watercolour paper 300gsm (140lb) 'not' texturesd surface equal to one half imperial sized sheet per student each day)
- Regular demonstrations, one to one and group tuition
- Fully equipped modern studio on site at Higham Hall for painting days
- Regular group, one to one and plenty of easy follow demonstrations each and every day
What you need to bring
- Your favourite watercolour brushes - the larger the better
- Masking medium and an old brush or similar to apply it
- Kitchen roll or absorbant cloths
- Masking tape, bulldog clips
- A camera and note book
- Scrap paper (A4 printer paper ideal)
- A plastic pallete with deep wells to hold mixed colours or similar highly recommended
- A sharp craft knife, cheap nutmeg grinder for powdering Inktense blocks
- Soft graphite stick and an eraser
- Permanent white gouache - essential
- Old jam jars (for clean water mixing) studio - plastic lightweight ones for working outdoors
- Containers/wells for mixed colours - lots of them
Highly recommended bring with you
For students who want to explore Derwent inktense techniques on different watercolour papers I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you bring with you different sizes and surfaces and wieghts of watercolour papers (your own choice). I will show you the benefits in both real work I will bring with me the different creative effects and will, of course show you in demonstrations during the art break. To try for diffiernt surfaces and techniques, please dop bring your own watercolour papers too.
