MARCH 2021 - Expressive Lakeland Landscape with Acrylic Mixed Media

Higham Hall, Cumbria

This very popular acrylic mixed media art holidays explores creative and expressive techniques with acrylic paint, acrylic inks and oil pastels - often in the same study to create really exciting paintings.

The stunning location at Higham Hall offers a unique ‘country retreat’ atmosphere. Just a stone's throw from the historic market town of Cockermouth and very close to Bassenthwaite Lake, Higham Hall is well placed to explore the dramatic landscape in the Western Lakes.

Complete with an on-site well equipped and modern studio, Higham Hall offers a perfect base for your enjoyable painting holidays, which explore both studio based painting workshops and fun and exhilarating en-plein air painting experiences (weather permitting).

Introduction

This is a course that appeals to both the acrylic artist and for artists with some experience with the media who really want to explore a greater depth with the media in their work. I'm a big texture fan so I'll be teaching you how to add exciting textured effects to your paintings to add plenty of extra expression to your paintings.

There is a major emphasis on this course to demonstrate and for you to follow how different kinds of mark making on different surfaces such as textured paper, canvas, pannel and so on (using palette knives, big brushes, card etc) layering the media and building up colour and surface relief can really make a difference to your approach to subject with a deeper engagement.

We go out to paint on this art holiday too (weather permitting of course). By creating a direct response to the landscape with field studies with sketches, paintings and mixed media drawings the visual responses gathered from dramatic Lakeland landscape viewpoints pay dividends in your work and painting ethos.

Taken 'trouble feee' on short scenic tours by Higham Hall mini-bus to your carefully chosen painting locations, this is another great opportunity for you to sit back and relax and be inspired by The Lake District in another way too!

A personal note
Over the years I've come to know The lake District well and I really believe that the landscape surrounding Higham Hall is some of the best and unspoilt landscape in the whole of The Lake District. It's truly a magical (and beneficial) experience to engage directly with your landscape by drawing, painting and enjoying 'the great outdoors'.

All in all, this is a very unique painting holiday indeed and provides you with the opportunity of learning lots of my popular and prersonally rewarding creative techniques, a 'nothing left out or hidden' approach to the teaching week.
