SEPTEMBER 2022 - Expressive Lakeland landscapes with mixed media at Rydal Hall

Rydal Hall, Rydal, Cumbria
Popular late Summer course - early booking highly recommended!

This inspirational art holiday in the heart of the Lake District at this special time of the year has all the right ingredients to the perfect creative getaway. Painting and drawing both in the spacious 'Bully Barn' studio at Rydal Hall and outdoors in the immediate landscape (weather permitting) at Rydal Hall, this exciting art holiday is perfect for students who want to further develop their painting and drawing skills to new and exciting levels of creativity in magical surroundings.

A stunning location situated in 34 acres of woodland, Rydal Hall offers creative inspirational views all year round right on the doorstep! The wonderful woodland grounds with mountain streams and the famous Rydal Falls waterfall are all close by. The formal Italian Terrace at the front of the hall and secluded quiet gardens are great to explore and paint in and will be part of the perfect inspirational for your 'get away from it all' mixed media art holiday at Rydal Hall.

The superb picturesque and dramatic local landscape close to Rydal Hall is both ideal and popular with art students who are looking to relate real 'living landscapes' as subjects and inspiration in the type of paintings they wish to create. This is a beautiful and stunning part of The Lake District and all of the locations students just love for painting and drawing.

There is so much to inspire and I will encourage you as your experienced art tutor to help you to develop your art skills to new and exciting levels. We will explore lots of new and exciting ways of painting with different media both in the studio and outdoors (weather permitting). The dedicated barn studio called 'The Bully Barn' is perfect for creative indoor painting and all our get togethers which is on site and just a short walk away from Rydal Hall itself.

Please note: This course is not for beginners as art techniques are too advanced. The art holiday is aimed at artists with some previous experience who are seeking a more expressive looser approach with their work.

What you need to bring
Watercolour, gouache in your own favourite colours. Tube paints please. Pans are too small
Acrylic inks (any brand in your own favourite colours) - optional but recommended

Canson Mi-Teintes 'Touch' 350gsm pastel paper or similar. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH CANSON MI-TEINTES 170gsm paper which is too thin and has the wrong surface texture
Canson Moulin du Roy 300gsm (140LB) 'not' watercolour paper highly recommended
Metal easel and drawing board (at a size you wish to work too)
A mixture of different size brushes - the larger the better.
Boots, raincoat, hat, gloves etc

Lightweight water mixing pot, large watercolour palette
