This is an ideal workshop for artists who want to explore the lovely and versatile media of soft pastels in this unique and spectacular setting in North Yorkshire. There are creative and colourful compositions everywhere! 

Hillsides of clipped Lavender stretch into the valley with lovely scenic views of beautiful farmland beyond just so inspire! Beautuful Yorkshire Lavender has proved time and time again to be a real success for us all l in terms of painting subjects over several seasons and when you are here it's clear to see why!  We are totally spoilt for choice for great painting subjects in this relaxed and inspiring location.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced artist, the tuition you'll receive will help you personally develop your art skills. No student will be out of their depth, left behind or otherwise. 

Demonstrations will be in pastel  but...if you want to learn practical experiences with a particular media I'm open to you bringing that too. I'm conversant with many and use them regularly myself (except oils) so this will be an enriching experience for you too.

A great outdoor creative workshop suitable for all artists with different levels of ability who wish to explore a looser more impressionistic style. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced in skill level, regular one to one tuition throughout the day will teach you lots of new and exciting techniques for landscape painting and pastels.

On this workshop I will show you how to quickly combine Watercolour, Gouache and Soft Pastel in a direct response to subject. The expressive and colourful techniques demonstrated, together with gestural mark making, will most certainly inspire you with confidence to have a go yourself with the media you choose to bring. 

If you want to create your own painting using just pastels or watercolour then that's absoltely fine! The workshop is focused on what you want to learn and do and gain more experience with.

The initial group demonstration (about 35/40 mins with tuition) shows you how a painting is developed. The Lavendar fields at this special North Yorkshire venue with their far reaching views towards the Vale of York are really inspiriring!

Back by popular demand - 'Marsh Light'  with soft pastel at Norfolk Creative Arts for 2026!

An exciting two day pastel short art course awaits at Norfolk Creative Arts on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September. 

The theme is ‘marsh light’ and will encompass an expressive use of soft and hard pastel techniques each day to capture the beauty of (day 1 - Saturday 26 September) soft morning light through the fens, reeds and marshes of the Norfolk Broads and (day 2 -Sunday 27 September) the romantic glowing light that North Norfolk has to offer across the inspiring salt marshes.

I will teach you how to master depth, express the captivating light and use expressive layering with ust the right amount of detail to create really atmospheric pastel paintings each day with that added wow factor!

You will learn how to layer your pastels, blend them cleanly, create meaningful and expressive marks - all to give the ‘wow’ factor to your paintings. You will learn when and how to get the best effects from both hard and soft pastels and fixative in combination…and so much more.
